Leder,
Joan Gayle
Spring Lake, Michigan

Joan Gayle Leder, age 91, passed away Monday, February 7, 2022. She was born in Muskegon, MI on November 26, 1930 to John & Hazel (Cashbaugh) Hutchison and married Arnold Leder on April 16, 1953. Joan was a lifetime member of First Congregational Church, where she served on various church boards, as past president of the Women's Fellowship, and was a member of Circle 15 and of the Motet and Bell choirs. She was a past president of the Muskegon Woman's Club, a member of PEO Chapters Y and DS, and a former member of Hackley Hospital Cherry Guild. Joan was also involved in many civic affairs, particularly the Muskegon High School Band Parents. She was named 1983 Muskegon Mother of the Year. She and Arnold enjoyed traveling and spent five winters on the Costa del Sol in Spain. Joan loved the arts and music and especially enjoyed playing her piano. A true caretaker by nature, she gave up a college education to take care of her ailing parents and spent 10 years taking care of her husband before his death. Last year more than 150 attended a 90th birthday party she hosted at her home. Joan will be deeply missed by a host of friends and her family.

Jeff & Joel - Your mom was so good to my mom as she was struggling with cancer back in the 1970s - and when my mom died, she was so good to our family. She was a second mother to me. I thank God for putting her into my life. It was Deb's and my privilege to visit her in hospice the weekend before she died. She will ALWAYS be remembered with love. - Nate Mattson

Jo was such a great friend to my mom Betty Tourre LeBlanc. She would. Meet me for lunch on my moms Birthday to remember her. We couldn’t meet in recent years due to Covid and her health. I just tried to call her and saw this obituary. I am so saddened by her death. She was such a wonderful fun caring person. Amy Farrell Betty’s daughter.

CandlePlease accept my condolences. My memory of Joan is that she was always friendly and said "hello," when I was a newcomer to the choir.

We are remembering Joan with great fondness. Our first interaction with Joan was when a group of us 20-somethings visited Jeff to go to Lake Michigan. Martin was visiting too. I can still see Martin riding a small wave in our blue kayak. A cool kid, we all thought. Anyway, Jeff has been an uncle to our three sons--Uncle Jeffy, Joan loved that name. Joan gave so much to her children and her community. Thank you, Joan, for being a beautiful example in our lives. Thank you for Uncle Jeffy”

I only met her a few times and she left such an impression… her spunk, her zest for life, her love for family. What a precious lady… I’m sure her crown will be full of jewels
