Jim and I graduated in 1967 from North Muskegon. Being a small school everyone knew everyone. Although I didn’t know Jim really well, our paths were destined to cross for years after high school as we were both teachers in Muskegon Public Schools. We taught in different buildings but whenever the staff met as a whole, I would be greeted by Jim with a smile and a warmth that is rarely experienced. I will miss being able to run into Jim. My condolences to his family and friends.

We, too, had a family of 5 kids all in line to see Dr. B. It was the last name that caused me to connect to Jim online
asking if he was related to Dr. B. We were FB friends for along time and remember the many conversations and laughs.
Such a fun and caring man, felt like I knew him for years, however, never met in person.
With sadness and sincere sympathy for your loss, I hope he knows how many will miss him.

Best teacher ever! He is the reason I stayed in school as long as I did. Such a good man... RIP Bradshaw

Heartfelt condolences to the family of James Burton Bradshaw.
Dr. Park was pediatrician to our large family from the mid-1950s onward. We enjoyed family time together at their home in North Muskegon and at ours on Muskegon Lake and later on Mona Lake. A couple of years ago, Jim and I reconnected through mutual friends and Facebook. Once again we shared silly jokes, our mutual love of Shelties, and Muskegon memories. One more link in the chain of shared memories is gone.

Jim and his family were a big part of my life growing up practically from infancy. From what my mother said, the Bradshaws wanted to adopt both of us, so we were almost siblings in fact, not just as friends. I have many happy memories of playing" Army" or "Cowboys" or "Davey Crockett" or exploring down at Johnson's Point with Jim and other neighborhood kids. Jim's love of PB and J sandwiches really stands out: at age 4 -5 he insisted on eating PB and J for lunch every single day for what seemed like years back then. Thank you for being a major thread in the fabric of my wonderful childhood. I am so sad to lose you. My heart and prayers go out to your children, family, Ozzie, friends and your students. I know they meant the world to you. I hope you are in Dog Heaven or that all your beloved dogs are with you now.
Love,
Marilyn Damm Hocking

Jim Bradshaw
So many wonderful memories of growing up in North Muskegon and knowing Jim and his family
* I remember visiting his house.
* Jim’s sister, Marsha, was the teacher of our Lake Michigan beach school
* Jim’s father, Dr. Bradshaw (or Dr. Park as we called him) was my pediatrician
* In recent years Jim and I were in contact via Facebook and email
* We never were able to get together but we did try.

CandleMay 22, 1954 (the day before my 5th birthday), my first and best friend, James Burton Bradshaw, and I met when we moved into the Miller Drive house. The following summer we became real blood brothers (knife cuts and all… still have the scar) Jim died yesterday.... I just found out... once I stop being unglued I may be able to process the enormous pain I feel... we were best friends starting in 1954... There is no end to the stories we could tell if he were here with me now… and the rest is history… those that shared our adventures will know… here’s to Jimmy:

THE PEANUT BUTTER SONG (PBJ’s forever)
(in loving memory of James Burton Bradshaw) written by mike fleckenstein, sept. 1968

CROSSING THROUGH THE MIND OF SOMEONE... I CAN SEE THE SEA BIRDS...
IN THE CLOUDS ABOVE THE WAVES ALONG THE SHORE.
I CAN FEEL THE TOUCH OF MORNING... AFTER ALL THE CLOUDS HAVE GONE...
LAUGHING IN THE HOLLOWS OF BEFORE.

SEARCHING IN MY DREAMS FOR SOMEONE LOVELIER THAN YOU...
I MIGHT AS WELL BE TALKING TO THE MOON.

GRAVEL IN MY SHOES... COLLECTING BOTTLES BY THE ROAD...
I CAN SEE THE SUN SLIPPING PAST THE APPLE TREES.
LAUGHING IN THE SCHOOL YARD... WITH THE KIDS I USED TO KNOW...
I REMEMBER POPPING BUBBLES IN A SUMMER BREEZE.

SEARCHING IN MY DREAMS FOR SOMEONE LOVELIER THAN YOU...
I MIGHT AS WELL BE TALKING TO THE MOON.

NOW I SIT AND SMILE A LOT... LIVEN IN THE EVENINGS...
CATCHING MEMORIES AS THEY DRIFT AMONG THE STARS.
WHEN LIFE WAS SONG AND PEANUT BUTTER... CRYING OVER WHAT WE HAD...
AND LOVING YOU FOREVER WHO YOU ARE...

5/18/2020

I’m sure you have so dreams you hoped to fulfill… you did good my friend… You left us yesterday, quietly just like you wanted it… I have and will always be your friend.

My sincere condolences to his family. Mr. Bradshaw was my favorite teacher and to many others. There were soo many friendships made in his auto mechanics class at Muskegon High with his laid back teaching style, friendships I still cherish to this day! Rest easy Mr. Bradshaw.
