Woodrow "Woody" Carr, age 89, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2007, at a local hospital. Woodrow was born October 28, 1917, in Chicago, IL, to John Arthur and Madonna Elizabeth (Fraley) Carr. He has lived in the Muskegon area since 1934. Woodrow married the former Marian Brott on December 8, 1942, in Texarkana, Arkansas. Woody served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, in the Philippine Islands and New Guinea. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Polar Bear Post #3734 in Fruitport. Woodrow was also a member of the Evanston Ave. Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon's board, the music committee, and was a member of the choir. Woody had a deep love of music and was a part of the Gospel Ambassadors trio for many years. He retired from Muskegon Tool Industries in 1977 where he had been a machinist, and served as local Union president. Woody had also worked for Norge earlier in his career. Woodrow is SURVIVED by his wife of 64 years, Marian; 5 children, Richard L. (Suzi) Carr of Spring Lake, Marilyn McCann of Muskegon, Robert D. (Peggy) Carr of Fruitport, Shirley A. (Larry) Poll of N. Muskegon, and John D. (Kathy) Carr of Fruitport; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Carr; 2 sisters, Audra Vasquez and Frances Weir; and son-in-law, John McCann. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11AM Monday, October 29, 2007 at Evanston Ave. Baptist Church, 1188 Evanston Ave., with Pastor Shane Prewitt and Pastor Al Engstrom co-officiating. VISITATION will be Sunday afternoon from 2-5 PM at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave 231-726-5210 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with full Military Rites. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Evanston Ave. Baptist Church.
