Wilma Devette Bond Profile Photo

Wilma DeVette Bond died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the age of 85 following complications associated with cancer. Wilma Marie DeVette was born February 9, 1925, in Erie, PA. She married William H. Bond on July 7, 1944. Following WWII, they settled in Detroit where Wilma worked as a retail buyer to support the family while Bill attended medical school. They moved to Muskegon in 1953 where Wilma became a full-time wife, homemaker, and mother of five. Over the years, Wilma was an active volunteer with many organizations including the Women's Auxiliary of the Muskegon County Medical Society, Hoffmaster State Park, the Friends of the Library, and most recently, active with the Mercy Health Partners Cancer Support Group. She was a master weaver until arthritis stopped this activity, and she had a passion for reading. The family would like to thank Mercy Health Partners Cancer Support Group for their support and friendship of Wilma and Bill during this difficult time, and the many family members and friends whose support we could not have done without. SURVIVORS Wilma is survived by her husband of 65 years, William; five children and their spouses, Meredith Bond and Lex Oversteegen of Birmingham, AL; Lindsay and John Totten of Pittsburgh, PA; David and Lue Anne Bond of Lansing; Matthew and Julie Bond of Muskegon; and Gilian Bond and Jon Thiel of Saginaw; grandchildren Karmen Bond Taranto and Abby Bond, Adrienne Koda and her husband David, Andrew and William Bond, and Kendall and Mason Thiel; great grandchildren Luke, Karley, Alexandra, Blaise, and Harmony. SERVICE According to her wishes, Wilma has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010, 11:00 AM at Clock Funeral Home Muskegon. VISITATION Friday, 2-4 & 6-8 PM and Saturday, 1hour prior to the service at Clock Life Story Funeral Home - Muskegon. MEMORIAL: For those planning an expression of sympathy, instead of flowers please consider donating to one of Wilma's favorite charities. She truly felt there were so many books, so little time, and would have appreciated a donation to the Hackley Library; to the Mercy Health Partners Cancer Support Group to help continue their excellent work with cancer survivors and their families; or Midland Special Olympics, 5202 Cortland St. Midland, MI 48642, to benefit her grandson and his SO teammates.
