Mr. William Carl Snyder, age 86, husband of Rev. Donna Smith-Snyder, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007. He was born December 15, 1920 in Fruitland Township to William and Lydia (Hesse) Snyder. He married the former Vesta Rosel, who passed away on July 5, 1986. He and Donna were married on August 1, 1987. Bill was in the Michigan State Police 1942-1950 and was Ottawa County Undersheriff 1950-1952. He retired in 1983 from Lappo Lumber Company, where he worked in contract sales. His community service included serving 8 years on the Whitehall School Board. He was a charter member of White Lake Historical Society, served in the U.S. avy during W.W.II and was a 29 year member of Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69. In 1995 he assisted his wife in establishing Unity Church on the Lakeshore in Douglas, Michigan. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, brother and friend to the many people who loved him. SURVIVORS include: daughters, Kathy Frazier (Tim) of Spring Lake, Nancy Russell (Nick) of Dexter; step-daughter, Kathy Brooks (Ron) of North Muskegon; step-sons, David Russell (Nancy) of Ft. Myers, FL and Michael Russell of Coopersville; 4 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lydia Argo (Tom, deceased) of Montague, Doris Benedict (Bill, deceased) of Santa Maria, CA and 1 brother, Charles Snyder (Joan) of LaJolla, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vesta; sisters, Betty, Elsie, Gladys and Marjory. SERVICES will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 29 at Clock Funeral Home 413 South Mears Avenue Whitehall, Michigan (231) 894-5676 with Rev. Keith Koebel officiating. Visitation with Bill's family will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL GIFTS to Unity Church on the Lakeshore's Meditation Garden Fund will be appreciated.
