William M. Mcdonald, Sr.

Mr. William M. McDonald, Sr., age 88, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on June 30, 1919 to Clifford and Sue (Stapleton) McDonald, attended and graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic High School, and moved to Muskegon in 1947. Mr. McDonald was a veteran of the United States Army and had served in WWII with the 59th Armored Artillery were he earned the Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Star Medal. After his service to his country, he was employed by Continental Teledyne Motors for 40 years before his retirement. Mr. McDonald was a life member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. On January 25, 1947, William married the former Frances J. Haze and she preceded him in death on October 26, 2007. He is survived by 14 children, Kathleen (Roger) Southland, William (Gloria) McDonald, Jr., Mary (Robert) Wiltenburg, Peggy (Thomas) Zagers, Thomas (Bonita) McDonald, Clifford (Marilyn) McDonald, Carl (Helen) McDonald, John McDonald, Robert (Patricia) McDonald, Annette (Clarence) Town, Joan (Daniel) Bates, Elizabeth McDonald, Joyce (Ronald) Hudson, and Donna (John) McDonald; 37 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Margaret Ann) McDonald and sister, Marylou (Don) McDonald. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Susan Niemczak and 2 sisters, Jane Mouton and Betty Johnson. VISITATION will be 3-5PM & 6-8PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with the ROSARY prayed at 6PM. SERVICES will be 11AM Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Antony Britto presiding. INTERMENT will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
