In his home, William Greiner Grant, 86, died peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on April 10, 1938, to William and Clara (Greiner) Grant and married Janet (Hylen) Grant on August 29, 1964. They shared 58 years of marriage. He was a devoted, calm, nurturing husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin.
Bill was a 1956 graduate of Muskegon High School and a lifelong fan of Big Red Football. He was raised as a devout Catholic and later attended First Congregational Church. Bill was a member of the National Guard and proudly served our country. He attended Muskegon Community College, Michigan Technology University, and later Aquinas College, leading to a career as a professional engineer. His career began at S.D. Warren and continued at Sealed Power and SPX Corporation.
Later in life, he continued with Engineering Dimensions/ E3. He devoted over 60 years as a professional engineer and participated in many community projects. Bill loved giving back to the community, and this was evident in his many volunteer activities, including the Mona Shores Band Parents, Jaycees, Hile Little League, Boy Scouts, PTA, Goodwill Industries, and the Muskegon Chamber of Commerce. He was a lifelong blood donor.
He lived his entire life in Western Michigan, working and raising his family. He was never deterred by the cold when it came to grilling. His love for the water, instilled in him from his childhood on Twin Lake, never waned. Bill also enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with his family. Two things were guaranteed if you spent time with Bill: he would have a book in his hand and a cribbage board within reach. His online book business and an extensive collection of rare books showed his passion for books. Playing board games and cribbage were a necessity and joy for any family gathering.
