On Sunday, January 21, 2007, at 7:30 a.m., the laughter and joy of Jerry Weavers' life was silenced by pancreatic cancer. He passed away at his home in Spring Lake with his family 10 weeks shy of his 68th birthday. He was born April 9, 1939, to Gerald and Dorothy (Kamp) Weavers in Grand Haven, and he married Sharon Grimason on March 5, 1966, in Spring Lake. Jerry has been a Tri-Cities resident and businessman all of his life and will be sorely missed by many. He owned Weavers Iron & Metal, a business founded by his father, for 45 years until its disposition in 2002. He also owned JW's Food & Spirits from 1994 until it was sold to his daughter, Chris. Prior to his surgery to remove the cancer on November 7, 2005, Jerry spent his time riding dirt bikes in the woods with friends and family, as well as driving and performing pit crew duties for the family race car at local tracks. If he wasn't working on projects at home, he could be found at his cabin up north with his wife, Sharon, and their kids and grandkids. The winter months would find him behind the wheel of his motor home heading somewhere warm with his wife and their dog, Maggie, riding shotgun. If there was something fun and exciting to do with his buddies or family, you could find him doing it - snowmobiling, pheasant hunting, water skiing, horseback riding, fishing, and vacationing. Fun and friendship were never far from him, whether he was at work or at play. We will all miss his laughter, his joy in life, and his giving spirit very, very much. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of almost 41 years, Sharon; 2 daughters, Chris (John) Stevenson of Grand Haven and Becky (Larry) Huttenga of Spring Lake; a son, Jerry Lee Weavers II of Norton Shores; and a sister, Charleen Spencer of Fruitport. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren whom he totally adored: Allyson, Sam, Joshua, and Emily. He was preceded in death by his parents. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. On Wednesday, January 24, a memorial gathering will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Fruitport Auditorium with a tribute presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Memorials to Hackley VNS Hospice in Muskegon are appreciated.
