Mr. Goeres, age 76, died May 23, 2007. Born April 17, 1931, in Kingsfeld, Yugoslavia, to John and Elsie (Buchner) Goeres, he had lived in the area the past 30 years. On September 7, 1988, in Carson City, NV, he married the former Patricia Whiting. He had worked for Consumers Power Co., at the B.C. Cobb Plant until retiring in 1992. Mr. Goeres was retired from the US Army, having served two tours in Vietnam, receiving three Purple Heart medals, as a 1st Sgt. tank commander, Troop D, 11th Armored Division. He was wounded by sniper fire, and besides being awarded the Purple Heart, he also received the Bronze Star medal and the Presidential Citation medal. He was a Life member of the White Lake VFW Post #3256 and Life member of Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69. FAMILY: His wife, Patricia; children, Walter Lee (Tina) Goeres of AZ, Marlisa Ann (Bruce) Bradfield of Whitehall, Robert (Kim) Goeres of KY, Heidi (Andrew) Rynberg of Hesperia, Debra VanderLeest of Montague, Dennis (Karen) Holm of TN and Mike (Teresa) Holm of OH; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Margarete Delano of North Branch and Liesel Nimptsch of Grand Rapids; 2 brothers, John (Melanie) Goeres of NC and Karl Goeres of Hart. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, May 27, 2007, at 1:00 PM, at White Lake VFW Post #3256, 9370 Walsh Rd., Montague. A Military Salute will be extended by White Lake VFW Post #3256. DONATIOINS: Memorial Fund of White Lake VFW Post #3256, 9370 Walsh Rd., Montague 49437.
