Virginia Louise "Gyni" Porter

Virginia Louise "Gyni" Porter, age 64, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She was born June 18, 1944 in Plainwell, MI to Carl and Gertrude (Guffin) Hiar and lived in the Muskegon area since 1961. She was married to Rodney Murdzia and he preceded her in death on March 9, 2006. After retiring as a nurses aide for DeBoer Nursing Home in 1996, Gyni worked as a clerk for Family Dollar until 2007. She enjoyed doing crafts. SURVIVORS include her children, Paula (Thomas) Gonzalez of Muskegon, Edward (Elizabeth) Porter of Clarkston, and Jodi (Rick) Chvala of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren, Thomas, Marc, Taylor, Zachary, Garrett, Alisen and Jacob; 2 great-grandchildren, Evan and Nevaeh; her sister, Rachel Ward of Wayland; and sister-in-law, Stella Hiar; several nieces and nephews; and loving friends, Nancy Porter-Ellis, Laura Chvala, Jeni Umlor and her special dog, "Amber". She was also preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Kenneth Hiar. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 15, 2008 at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey Street (231) 798-1100 VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Monday, at the funeral home.
