Mrs. Virginia (Gini) Frances Kaines, age 89, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018. She was born in Chicago, IL on May 16, 1929 to Henry & Anna (Poff) Soderstrom and married the love of her life Warren Kaines on April 30, 1960. Mrs. Kaines worked at Kaines Mfg. until 1974. After the passing of her husband in 1975, Gini worked at Harbor Pharmacy as a clerk and cosmetician until she officially retired at the age of 70. Also, during all of that time, Gini worked weekends bartending for the Elks and loved the community fellowship of the club. Gini was a social butterfly even after she moved to Whitehall to be closer to her daughter, always attending the activities at SKLD (formerly Heartland) of Whitehall. She was a member of Ludingtons Grace Episcopal Church since 1960, was an avid reader, and enjoyed working in her yard and traveling. She especially loved Mexico. In her later years, she and her younger daughter made many memories traveling around Michigan, riding the Badger to Wisconsin and going out east to visit her daughter in Massachusetts. Always enjoying family gatherings with her sons family, she especially enjoyed boating and spending time with them at their cabin in the Upper Peninsula. The family would like to thank the medical staff, certified nurses aides, and activity personnel of Heartland (SKLD) for the professional, loving, and fun care that Gini enjoyed during her 4 years as a resident.
