Verna Strait

Mrs. Verna D. Strait, age 90, went to be with her Lord & Savior Tuesday, May 11, 2010 with her family by her side. She was born in Oceana County, MI on September 20, 1919 to John & Valeda (Rumsey) Smith and married Harold Strait on July 18, 1936. Harold & Verna were proprietors of Harold's Gulf & Harold's Northshore Mobil of North Muskegon from 1948-1977. After retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Zephryhills, Florida and traveling with the Airstream Trailer Club. Mrs. Strait had been a homemaker whose family meant everything to her. She attended area Wesleyan Churches where she was a Sunday School Teacher, part of the Missionary Society and was nominated Mother of the Year. She was a caring, loving mother & grandmother who looked forward to family gatherings. She will be dearly missed. A special thank you to our sister, Linnea Strait for her loving care and dedication to our mother. SURVIVORS Harold & Verna were blessed with 10 children, Karel Dawe, Maxine Gilmore, Vernita (Charlie) Miller, Dale (Joan) Strait, Linnea Strait (Terry Mortenson), Don Strait, Rebecca (Robert) Wells & a daughter-in-law, Linda Strait; 21 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren & 6 great great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Conroy; sisters-in-law, Edith Smith Kokx, Donna Smith; several nieces, nephews; special neighbor Marilyn Sondi; beloved dog, Percy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2005; daughters, Audrey Strait, Sharon Strait, son, Ron Strait; granddaughter, Lori Miller; sons-in-law, Tom Dawe & Mike Gilmore; brothers, Cecil Smith, Carl Smith; sisters, Corabelle Buogiz, Charlene Mysen, Lilah Payne. SERVICE Per Verna's request, no services will be held. MEMORIAL: American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
