Toppen, Elsie M.

Mrs. Elsie M. Toppen, age 87, passed away at home Monday, October 16, 2006 following a long illness. She was born on April 21, 1919 in Muskegon Heights to Norman M. and Janet (Ross) Campbell, the 7th of 8 children. She was a 1937 graduate of Muskegon Heights High School. On April 26, 1946, she married Charles R. Toppen in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2005. Mrs. Toppen was formerly employed at Motor Specialties, E.H. Sheldon Co. and C.W.C. where she met her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles. She retired from Johnson Products after 26 years, where she worked as executive secretary. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Elsie was an avid golfer and was a former member of Pontaluna Country Club. She was an accomplished shuffle board player and was a member of the Muskegon Shuffle Board Association where she was involved in the organization of many state shuffle board tournaments. She and Charles spent many of their retirement years wintering at Holiday Ranch in Clearwater, FL. Elsie had much enthusiasm and zest for life which she loved to share with all who knew her. SURVIVORS: Sister, Ellen M. Bush of Muskegon; sister-in-law, Anne Toppen and many loving nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Norman W., Hugh, Robert and Donald Campbell; sisters, Catherine Jones, Janet Pfeiffer. A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Lori Fortney and Sandy Barnhart. VISITATION: Friday, October 20, 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Lee Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial at Mona View Cemetery. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Wickham and Sherman Blvd. Friday, November 3, 2006, Rev. Dr. Fred Halde presiding. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
