Mr. Donald H. "Red" Thompson, age 91, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006 following a brief illness. He was born on October 16, 1915, the 4th of 10 children in Indianola, IL to Leonard and Nancy (Cope) Thompson. Mr. Thompson came to Muskegon as a young man. On June 30, 1944 he married the former Elizabeth L. Runyon. As a young man, Red worked on the Civilian Conservation Corps. and was an accomplished athlete, once racing against famed Jesse Owens. Red was an avid golfer, equestrian, fisherman and bowler. He retired in 1982 from American Coil Spring, where he was employed as supervisor wireman. He also served on the City of Muskegon Electrical Examiner Board. He is SURVIVED by: wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Thompson; son, Douglas (Penny) Thompson of Kalamazoo; 2 daughters, Jennifer (Bob) Zerlaut of Central, SC and Dianna (Scott) Ogborn of Albuquerque, NM; 7 grandchildren, Chris, Melissa, Danielle, Courtney, T.J., Ashley and Maggie and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral SERVICE: will be held at the Lee Funeral Home Monday, October 30, 2006 at 2:30 PM with Rev. David A. Selleck presiding. INTERMENT: Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION: Sunday, 3-6 PM at the funeral home. Those desiring an expression of sympathy are asked to please consider contributions to the family.
