Thomas C. Wood

Mr. Thomas C. Wood, age 82, passed away peacefully Friday morning, September 12, 2008 at the Harbor Hospice - Poppen Residence. Thomas was born in Muskegon on April 10, 1926 to Adry and Mary (Draper) Wood. Thomas was a 1944 graduate of Muskegon Heights H.S. and was a life long member of the First Church of the Nazarene, currently Breakwater Church of the Nazarene. Thomas was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army, 102nd Infantry Division in Germany. On October 1, 1949 he married the former LaVeta May Parsons. Thomas was employed as an Engine Test Mechanic at Teledyne Continental Motors for 36 years, retiring in 1988. He was an avid outdoorsman, thoroughly enjoying deer hunting in the fall and fishing area lakes and streams in the summer. Thomas will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years, LaVeta; daughter, Diane Wood of Norton Shores; two sons, Thomas (Martha) Wood of Norton Shores and Daniel (Elena) Wood of Lowell; two sisters, Joyce Laird of Clermont, FL and Elaine Murie of Roosevelt Park; six grandchildren, Dennis (Bonnie) Wood, Thomas (Emily) Wood, Jr., Andrew (Sarah) Wood, Amanda Wood, Angela Wood, and Michelle Wood; and three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dawson, and Ethan Wood. A memorial service will be held at: The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 16, 2008, Rev. Randy Murphy officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions: Harbor Hospice or Breakwater Church of the Nazarene.
