Thomas Stewart, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away tragically on December 1, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on July 31, 1952, to Gilbert Petty and Annie Mae Stewart, Thomas was named after his grandfather, Thomas Petty, whose strength, work ethic, and devotion to family defined him. Throughout his life, Thomas honored that legacy with the same steadiness, compassion, and strength of character.

Thomas's life was a testament to perseverance and grace. He survived cancer not once, but twice-at ages four and eleven-crediting God's grace and his family's prayers for giving him the strength to overcome what doctors believed he could not. That faith and determination shaped the way he lived every day after-with courage, joy, and a promise to never let fear or regret hold him back.

Blessed with many talents, Thomas lived a life filled with artistic expression and inspiration. As a youth, he graced the stage as a member of the "Honey Waves" singing group, enchanting audiences with soulful Motown melodies that earned him the affectionate nickname, the 6th Temptation. His remarkable sense of style, suits, sun shades, dress shoes, and signature brims commanded attention in every space he entered. Thomas was a gifted storyteller who could captivate any crowd, and an artist whose drawings reflected both style and soul. His loving personality and sense of humor made him the centerpiece of every room he walked into. Lovingly known as "Uncle Tommy" by many, Thomas was a giant amongst men in love and friendship.

Thomas was united in marriage to the love of his life, Valerie Ann Rice (Stewart), with whom he shared a lifetime of devotion and laughter until her passing in September of 2024. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, and creativity. He was the proud father of three sons: Dalrecus, Terrance, and Thomas Jr., and a bonus son, Kunta Braylock.Through his son Dalrecus, he was also blessed with a devoted daughter-in-law, Yvette. He was also the cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren-Alyssia Stewart, Ashley Bennett, Breann Stewart, Dacia Stewart, Jalen Stewart, Kimari Stewart, Lamora Stewart, Shawntierra Valentine, and Terrance Jr. Stewart-and the loving great-grandfather of Ashlyn Bennett.

Though his time on earth ended too soon, Thomas's spirit lives on in every life he touched, every story retold, and every lesson he shared. The love he poured into his family and friends, the laughter he brought into every room, and the faith that carried him through hardship now serve as a lasting example of strength and hope. His courage, kindness, and unwavering belief in God's plan continue to light the way for those who knew and loved him, reminding them to live fully, love deeply, and trust that God is present in every season of life.

Thomas is survived by his siblings: Major Stewart, Rosemary Stewart, and Thurnell Stewart. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Valerie Ann Stewart; his parents Gilbert Petty and Annie Mae Stewart; his siblings Carrie Griffin, James Johnson, and Lottiea Stewart; his nephew Michael Stewart Sr.; great-nephew Michael Stewart Jr.; niece Franktris Stewart; aunt and uncle John and Lubertia Hendricks; and sister-in-law Carla Stewart.
