Hubbell Steven Carl Muskegon Steven Carl Hubbell, age 60, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in the care of the excellent staff there. Steven was born on April 4, 1961 in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of Stephen and Mary (Dyer) Hubbell. His early childhood was spent living in Muskegon and Bear Lake, Michigan. He loved playing baseball, swimming, and other sports and riding horses with his Aunt Donna. When Steven was 9, his father joined the Army. As part of a military family, Steven lived in many places around the world. The family lived at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Fort Belvoir, VA, the US Army Garrison in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky before returning home to Muskegon in 1987. Steven was diagnosed with a rare seizure disorder called Lennox-Gestault at age 10. He was treated by many medical professionals at both John's Hopkins and Walter Reed Hospitals. Despite the complex physical challenges his condition presented, Steven maintained a positive attitude and was never without a smile on his face. He always made others smile. Steven's gentle and loving nature made him a favorite of his pet cat Domino and all animals large and small. For many years, his mother Mary cared for him at home and he was her partner in volunteer opportunities through their church. Steven was a well-know figure at Muskegon Supper House, making sure all the trays were wiped clean before serving the next guest. For over 20 years Steven worked at Goodwill industries until retiring. Steven loved to play (and win) games like Ace-King, Yahtzee, and Mexican Train Dominoes. A prized possession was his Special Olympics medals. He also enjoyed doing word searches and had an extensive DVD movie collection. He loved super-heroes. Batman was his favorite. Everyone knew that his favorite color was red, styling in his red eye glasses. For the past three years, Steven lived at Virginia's House. There he was part of a wonderful family of residents and staff. The dedicated staff kept a very close eye on his physical health and social needs and cared deeply for him. The family thanks them for their caring and support, especially during COVID when we could not visit. Steven's life was a testimony to the love of God and the call to love others unconditionally. Steven knew he was loved by others and we all know how much he loved us.
