Stephen P. (Steve) Hoffman passed away peacefully and unexpectedly of natural causes while in Fort Myers, Florida on March 8, 2025. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on January 30, 1945, to Florence Beauvais Stark. He attended Muskegon Public Schools from kindergarten until he graduated from Muskegon High School in 1963. In his sophomore year he met Margaret Usmial, who remained the love of his life for more than 65 years. While at Muskegon High School, he played football and went on to play at Western Michigan University. He graduated from Western Michigan University with his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. He married Margaret on June 12, 1965. They returned after graduation to begin his career in Muskegon Public Schools as an English teacher, Guidance Counselor, Coach and as Athletic Director where he remained there for forty-four years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hoffman: Children, Steven (Leslie) Hoffman, Charles "Chad" Hoffman, Ann (Wes) Lancaster; Grandchildren, Dylan (Shelby) Lancaster, Lindsay (Cam) Marsrow, Michael Hoffman, Caroline Lancaster, Natalie Hoffman. Brother- in-laws, Leo (Carol) Usmial, John (Barbara) Usmial; sister-in-law Barbara Hoffman. Steve leaves behind several nieces and a nephew.

He had many friends, handball buddies, and coworkers that he remained close to. Steve took a special interest in his grandchildren's academics, athletic, and extra-curricular activities in high school and college. He loved playing board games with them and taking them out on his boat.

Within the community, he was a YMCA member since childhood, a Muskegon Sports Hall of Fame board member, a member of the Vikings, and just in the Fall of 2024 he received the first ever Muskegon Big Red Athletic Foundation Alumni Recognition Award.

He loved life: reading, biking, handball, swimming and sitting on his bench by his lakefront. He lived his life to the fullest.

Steve will be sorely missed by many friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May, 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Muskegon High School's Redmond Potter Gymnasium, 80 W. Southern Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441, using the 5th street entrance, with Visitation one hour prior to the service at the high school.
