Statia Hamel, age 91, went to be with her Lord on September 25, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 30, 1916, in Muskegon, MI, and lived here all her life. Statia was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church its Choir and past Secretary of its Rosary-Altar Society. She was a retiree of Muskegon Piston Ring Co., after 26 years. Statia was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church Choir, Salvation Army past Secretary and Board Member, the Polish Roman Catholic Union past Secretary-Trustee, and Polish Falcons Nest #883 past President, Miss Muskegon Guild, Womens Domocratic Club, MADC Delegate, past AFL-CIO Delegate to the Executive Board, Labor Picnic Chairperson of Beauty Contest 4 years, a Delegate to the AFL-CIO Retirees and Local #480 Retirees Secretary and reporter, Western Michigan News, Mercy Hospital Guild Member and Gift Shop Worker, Port City Playhouse and Frauenthal usher, and the Lakeside Eagles. Statia was a member and prominent voluneter of many civic and social organizations. She loved being with her family members, gardening, church activities, bingo and her 2 Kittys. Survivors include, daughter, Nancy (Everett) Rowe of Manton, MI; grandchildren, Sheri (Rocky) Main of St. Helen, MI, Mike Rowe of Manton, MI, Kimberly (David) Harnacek of Kingsley, MI, Robin Williams and John Tyler both of Holton, MI; 11 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; and her long time very special friend and companion Richard Zokas. Statia was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Tyler and grandson, Anthony Scott Tyler. The Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11am Monday at St. Michaels Catholic Church. Burial will be made in St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation hours will be on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Pachesny-Jend Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30pm by her family, friends, and members of the Rosary-Altar Society. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church.
