Sim Jr.
Sim Ray Jr., 94, of Muskegon, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Sim was born June 16, 1930, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Sim Ray, Sr. and Doris Warfield. He married the former Albirda Wallace on February 26, 1949. Together they were blessed with 75 years of marriage and ten beautiful children. He worked as a machine repairman at Campbell, Wyant and Cannon for 35 years where he was the secretary of the UAW 539. For over 28 years Sim worked for the City of Muskegon's Park and Recreation at the Smith Ryerson Park. He also managed the Smith Ryerson
Community Center that was later renamed to the Sim Ray Community Center dedicated on June 28, 2023.
Sim was a devoted man of God, he served as chair of the deacon board, member of the trustee department, choir president, member of the male choir and grounds keeper. He served as a longtime member of the Harps of Zion and Gospel Tornados quartet groups. Sim Ray is a member of the Christian Fellowship Outreach church under the leadership of Pastor Tyrone Rule.
He was a loving, caring, family-oriented man, and a loving husband who enjoyed bowling, yard work and family picnics. Sim and Albirda won the 2015 Most Extraordinary Parents 70+ BEAT Awards. He will be deeply missed.
SURVIVORS
He leaves to cherish his lovely wife, Albirda Ray; children, Lola Wiseman, Mary Bruce, Herbert (Keenya) Ray, Patricia Ray, Michael (Linda) Ray, Sandra (Gregory) Briggs, Thelma (Kenneth) Grissom, Jackie (Curtis) Adams, and Linda Ray; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Diane (Harry) Collier; sister in-law, Florida Clark; several God children including Carol Thompson and Jon Covington. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
SERVICES
Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Kingdom Embassy Covenant Church, 3025 Glenside Blvd Muskegon with Pastor Arthur Duren and Pastor Tyrone Rule officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service at Church. Repass to follow service at the Kingdom Embassy Covenant Church.
Those who preceeded in death were his parents, Sim Ray, Sr., Doris Warfield, son, Velester Ray, brother, Monsie Mitchell, sister, Lillie Hillard, grandchildren Tonya Kirksey, Eric Bridgeford and Michael Townsend.
