Shirley Doebel

Shirley A. Doebel, age 77, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Heartwood Lodge-Hospice House attended by her loving family. Shirley was born in Passaic, NJ on December 24, 1932 to the late Lucille and Francis Richardson. Shirley, at one time, was Director of Media, Community and Alumni Relations at Grand Valley State University. She was also News Bureau Editor and Public Information Officer at GVSU. She worked for Selvage & Lee Inc., a New York Public relations concern and for I.T.T. in Clifton New Jersey. She and her husband owned and ran a small manufacturing company. She enjoyed reading, theater, and was a worldwide traveler. She held several public offices including Spring Lake Township Planning Commission and Spring Lake Township Zoning Board of Appeals. Shirley was a member of several associations including Counterpart, the Questors, Stephen's Ministries (leader & teacher), Friends of Warner Baird Library, Public Relations Society of America, LOVE Inc. and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She graduated from St. Lawrence University. A loving mother and wife, she was a member of Christ Community Church in Spring Lake. SURVIVORS She is survived by her husband of 52 years, David Doebel of Spring Lake; son, John (Julia) Doebel of East Jordan, MI; daughter, Lucinda (Philip) Woudenberg of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Danato, Janelle, Jarred, Jebbediah, Michael and Daniel; great grandchildren, Josiah and Jonah Danato; brother, Douglas (Wai) Richardson of New York, NY; niece, Kay Lin and nephew, Kai. SERVICE The family will hold a private memorial.
