Shirlene Curtis Scouten, 84, passed away as a result of a long-term health condition on April 3, 2024, in the presence of her family. She was born on February 18, 1940, to John Milburn Curtis and Clara Mae (Lipsey) Curtis in Bragg City, Missouri. After graduating from Hart High School and Muskegon College of Business, Shirlene worked for Brunswick Corporation where she met her ex-husband, the late Kent Scouten. Shirlene served the public as a waitress/bartender in Oceana County over a nearly 60-year career. She retired at the age of 80 due to health problems and talked fondly of her loyal patrons and co-workers.

Shirlene is survived by her three daughters, Shelly Nelson, Sandy Scouten, and Sue (Tim Renwick) Danyluk; granddaughters Crystal (Kevin) Osborn, Nicki (Travis Talsma) Danyluk, and Olivia (Jordan Thomas) Nelson; great granddaughter Addie Osborn; brothers John Curtis, Jim (Lavonne) Curtis, Dan (Barb) Curtis; sister Drexel Kalavitz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirlene was preceded in death by her parents; her son-in-law Burt Nelson; and her siblings Christine Brown, Charles Curtis, Virginia Hindman Ballas, Mel Curtis, and Emory Curtis.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. at the Oceana Eagles in Hart. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Harbor Hospice organization (harborhospicemi.org) in memory of Shirlene Scouten.
