Jackson, Mrs. Shirlene Grand Rapids, Michigan Mrs. Shirlene Jackson departed this life on Monday July 22, 2022 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, MI. Shirlene was born Aug 19, 1946 in Grand Rapids Michigan to Beatrice Williams and Tom Odneal, she was the only child of her mother Beatrice. Sadly, at the age of 18 months Shirlene lost her mother. She was raised by her grandparents Lula and Homer Carter and her father Tom (Mary) Odneal. As a child she loved to sing and dance, she also loved to draw. Raised and educated in Muskegon Heights Public Schools, Shirlene also later raised her family here in Muskegon Heights in East Park Manor. She loved her city of Muskegon and had special place in her heart for many. Shirlene had a passion for caring and servicing people, she had been employed by East Park Manor Nursing Home, Knollview Nursing Home, House of Chan Restaurant and Muskegon Heights Public Schools. She retired from Muskegon Heights Public School System. Shirlene was a Licensed Ordained Minister and Evangelist; she took many young ladies and gentlemen under her wings to mentor and loved sharing her wisdom with everyone. She was a Church Mother, a choir member, Auxiliary Board member and an Intercessory Prayer Warrior. Shirlene loved styling hair for the neighborhood ladies and her family. Her other hobbies included baking cakes, cleaning, shopping and traveling. She adored raising her children and ministering to her children and grandchildren. Praising the Lord in dance and song and spreading His Word is what she loved to do most. Shirlene married Mr. Curtis Horton Sr., to that union 6 children were born. She gained 3 children to her union with Mr. Robert C. Jackson. Later in life Shirlene she married Gene Jackson and gained 2 children to that union. SURVIVORS Shirlene leaves to cherish her loving husband Mr. Gene Jackson, her children: Troy (Gwen) Carter, Killeen, Texas, Tameca Carter (James Glasscock Jr.) Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tonya Horton (Claude Sargent Jr.) Muskegon Heights, Michigan, Curtis (Marita) Horton, Waterford, Michigan, Nietra (Eric) Hood, Muskegon, Michigan. Additional children: Brian (Laquanna)Walker, Atlanta Georgia, Jamaul Hylow, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Donna Jackson, Muskegon, Michigan, Erma Jackson, Indiana and Reverend Tony (Alesha) Jackson, Charlotte North Carolina. There are 35 Grandchildren, 67 Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchild: Derrickus Green III, they were the joy of her world. Sisters: Pamela (Ray) Patton, Tupelo, Mississippi, Inger Blair, Pontiac Michigan, Brothers: Anthony (Robin) Coleman, Michael Whitlow, Atlanta, Georgia, Special Aunts: Darlene Carter, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Virginia Cole, Pontiac, Michigan, Special Uncles: Jack (Clarice) Odneal, Pontiac, Michigan, Eddie (Wesa) Odneal, Lake Orion, Michigan, Brother in Law: Hugh (Rita) Jackson Bonus sisters: Alymnette Horton (Sister-in-Law), Dear Cousins: Minnie Brown, Susie Odneal, Dear Friends: MaryAnn Day, Betty Roberts, Sandra Sain, Francis Briggs, Lula Black, Shirley Williams, Pat Manze, Oldest Niece and Nephew, Ida Woodson, Willie (Dusty Blue) Smith, Timothy Gus Carter (Son),God-Daughters, Nicole Mitchell and Alfreida Scott. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Calvin A. Carter, her parents, grandparents, former husbands, a sister Anna Lee Smith, a brother Alfred Coleman, a brother-in-law, Robert Jackson. SERVICE Monday, July 25, 2022, 12:00 PM at Church of the Living God with Pasto Nathaniel Wells III officiating. Interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
