Harriet R. "Happy" Senf, age 88, died on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Hospice House of Holland. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, "Happy" graduated from Grand Rapids Central, attended Olivet College, and graduated from The John Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. She moved to Muskegon in 1941 following her marriage to William R. Senf, who preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage. In 1958, Mrs. Senf joined the faculty of Hackley Hospital School of Nursing in Muskegon. A talented and respected teacher, she helped shape the careers of over 1,000 nurses during her career. At an age when most of her classmates were younger than her own children, she returned to college, earning her bachelors degree from Aquinas College in 1973, and her Masters Degree from WMU in 1975. She retired from Hackley Hospital in 1983 after 25 years of service. She remained active in her field, volunteering for Hospice of Muskegon, Visiting Nurses Association of Muskegon, and Hackley Hospital. Mrs. Senf was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Muskegon for many years. She is survived by her daughters, Harriet Sue (Mrs. David) Holdren and Nancy Ann (Mrs. Donald) Johnson; two granddaughters, Jennifer Sue (Mrs. Eric) Voigt and Lori Ann (Mrs. Craig) Warner; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Anne Warner and Gavin Andrew Warner. A Memorial Service celebrating "Happy's" life will be held in the Freedom Village Auditorium in Holland on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 12:30 PM. The service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Celia Thurston and Rev. Dr. Douglas Gallager of the Birmingham Unitarian Church in Birmingham, MI. The family requests that friends wishing to honor "Happy's" memory make donations to Hospice House of Holland.
