Scott W. Mitchell, 55, died June 10, 2008, at home, surrounded by his family, after an almost 4 year battle with brain cancer. Born April 2, 1953 in Alexandria, VA to Howard W. and Patricia M. Mitchell, Scott grew up in Manistee and Muskegon, Michigan. Following graduation, Scott enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 7 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working on the airborne laser program. Work with Texas Instruments brought him and his family to Dallas, Texas in 1980. Scott was employed at T.I. for 28 years. His job allowed him to travel abroad and to live in Shanghai, China for almost 3 years, where he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Scott's travel for T.I. awakened his interest in travel and he and Sherry traveled to many countries around the world. Scott was an avid private pilot and would find any excuse to fly. Scott is survived by his wife, Sherry D. Mitchell; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. and Rebecca Mitchell and their two sons, Daniel and Jacob of Plano; his daughter, Melanie R. Mitchell, also of Plano; his mother, Patricia M. Sanocki of Muskegon, Michigan; and his sister and brother-in-law, Erin and Kevin Kenny and their children, Chelsea Woller, Alec Woller, Sarah Kenny, and Ryan Kenny of N. Muskegon, Michigan. Scott is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernard and Mildred Kenny of Manistee and Frank and Margaret Sanocki of Manistee, Michigan and his father, John H. Sanocki of Muskegon, Michigan. The family thanks Karen Fink, M.D. and Stephanie Peschka, R.N. and the staff of Neuro-Oncology Associates for their care and treatment of Scott and his family during this difficult time. A memorial service for Scott will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas on Thursday, June 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Musella Foundation, 1100 Peninsula Blvd., Hewlett, New York 11557, for brain tumor research.
