Mrs. Charlotte L. Schoonbeck, age 82, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. Charlotte was born in Muskegon, MI, on February 14, 1924 to the late Harold and Orpha (Burkett) Zimmerman and married William H. Schoonbeck on July 9, 1943. She had been employed Dr. Leland Swenson, M.D., Dr. John Folsom, M.D., and Dr. Kenneth Otto, M.D. until her retirement. Charlotte was a life-time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and an active member in the 5th Guild and the Altar Guild. She also volunteered at the Hackley Health Gift Shop, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the 8 & 40 Group. Charlotte enjoyed golfing, bowling, and greatly treasured her family and many, many friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bill, on October 17, 1991; a sister, Grace Veldman; half-brother, Harold Boardman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Martha and Frank Meyers and Dorothy and John Huisman. Surviving are two sons: Buster (Shelley) Schoonbeck and David (Jan) Schoonbeck, both of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Dorathy (Alan) Ortquist of Norton Shores; very dear brother-in-law, Gerret Veldman of Muskegon; and very special nieces and nephews who always asked what they could do for "Aunt Chuck" because she always did so much for them. Charlotte's family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Robert Brown and the nurses and staff at the Poppen Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of their Mom. Memorial services for Charlotte will be Monday, November 13th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1006 Third St., Muskegon, with the Rev. Christopher Anderson of Samuel Lutheran Church ELCA officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services (from 10 to 11). Charlotte will be laid to rest next to Bill at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In Charlotte's memory, please consider the Poppen Hospice Residence.
