Russell J. Klassen, Jr.

Russell J. Klassen, Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 16, 2008 at Morton Plant Hospital in Largo FL following complications after a heart attack. He was born September 24, 1919 in Muskegon, MI to Lillian and Russell Klassen Sr. Mr. Klassen was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He retired from Teledyne-Continental Motors in 1984 after 32yrs of service. Russell was an avid collector of cars and fine guns, he enjoyed woodworking, sports, College and Pro Football/Basketball, playing and watching golf. He especially enjoyed watching Tiger Woods. He was also very proud of his youngest son Steve, of his accomplishments and career. He was particularly interested in his grandson Michael's football career and was one of his greatest fans and supporters. He is survived by his three children: David Klassen of Tampa, FL, Sharon (Klassen) Runnels of Grandville, MI and Steve Klassen (wife Kim) of Buda, TX; his loving grandchildren: Pete and Pam Mortellaro of Tampa, FL, Marty and Stephanie Gonzalez of Lutz, FL, Kristyn L. Runnels of Cuttlerville, MI, Stephanie, Brittany and Michael Runnels of Grandville, MI, Steven and Bella Klassen of Buda, TX; 8 great-grandchildren: Alexandra Kay, Ashlynn, Aubree, Bradley, Briana, Lilly Anne, Olivia, and Scotty. He was preceded in death by son John R. Klassen and beloved companion Victoria Knight. In keeping with Mr. Klassen's wishes, no funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place and a memorial luncheon will be held in celebration of Russell's life later this summer when his family can all get together.
