It is with a heavy heart yet a spirit of gratitude that we announce the passing of Roston Sargent, age 92, who transitioned peacefully to eternal rest on January 10, 2026. Born to Smead Sargent Sr. and Irene (Sharp) Sargent on September 8, 1933, in Magnolia, AR. He moved to Muskegon, MI in 1963. Roston was a loving husband to Marva Jo Sargent, whom he married on April 25, 1975, and a devoted father to his children.
Roston dedicated 35 years of his life as a Machine Operator at Grand Haven Brass before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. He was not only a cherished member of his family but also an active and beloved member of the Mount Hermon Zion Baptist Church. Roston enjoyed his time participating in the Tuesday Men's Bible study group and served faithfully as Trustee and Chief Usher.
He leaves behind a full and vibrant family, including his five children: Margie (Clarence) Jones and Doshia Sargent (Jerry) Colvin of Magnolia, AR; and Smead Sargent Jr. of Lafayette, LA, Roxanne Sargent-Carpenter and Darin Sargent of Muskegon, MI; Sister-in-law Emma Jean Sargent. Roston will be remembered fondly by his twelve grandchildren: Demario Harris, Adrian Sargent, Beverly Vaughn, Jasmyne Vaughn, Kerrea Darkins, Xzavier Fondren, Sonny Creer, Brandon (Jasmine) Creer, Tiffany Sargent, Britany Sargent, Thristan Adams, and Jeremy Colvin-as well as twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson
He was preceded in death by Parents, his wife Marva Jo; siblings: Mozell Hildreth, Vara Jackson, Obie Dean Grissom, Oleane Hildreth, Eva Mae Alexander and Leon Sargent; 2 Grandchildren Wanda Creer, and Brandon Sargent, Son-in-law, Larry Carpenter; and Daughter-in-law, Linda Sargent.
His funeral service will be held at Mount Hermon Zion Baptist Church on January 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM, with Rev. John L. Parker officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, starting at 11:00 AM at the church.
Following the service, Roston will be laid to rest in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, where his family and friends will come together to celebrate his remarkable life, and the memories shared.
