Totten, Mr. Roosevelt Muskegon, Michigan Mr. Roosevelt Totten, age 88, passed away April 1, 2021 at approximately 3:00pm. A golden heart stopped beating and hard working hands are now at rest. He was born in Starksville, Mississippi on October 1, 1932 to Curry Totten & Stacey Plair. A hard worker from dawn to dusk, he single-handedly managed a small farm with milk cows, pigs, chickens, and farmed the land to produce various crops. He married the former Roberta Bell on March 13, 1954 and to their union eight children were born. In 1968, he relocated to Muskegon, to seek a better life and career opportunities for himself and the family. Roosevelt had been employed at Campbell Wyant Cannon for over 20 years until retiring on April 1, 1981. After retirement, he pursued his passion as a handyman installing underground wells and sprinkler systems, vehicle mechanic, plumbing and tree removal. However, he was known throughout the state for selling finger licking barbecue ribs, chickens, hogs, goats and his famous homemade barbecue sauce. Roosevelt was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost at Christ Temple Church in Muskegon Heights, MI under the leadership of the late Bishop Willie Lee Burrel. He was a faithful servant as a trustee, barbecued for Councils, Pastor Anniversary, and volunteered in various auxiliaries until his health declined. Roosevelt was a faithful husband to his lovely wife Roberta (whom he affectionately called Bert). He loved his family, and was a generous man with a kind heart who enjoyed helping people, especially the elderly. He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all that had the pleasure of meeting him.
