Ronald "Ron" Michael Kurtzweil, age 78, a lifelong resident of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, just shy of his 79th birthday. He was born in Muskegon on March 19, 1947, to the late Damian Joseph and Vida June (Walker) Kurtzweil.

Ron was a dedicated worker, spending his career as a machine operator at several area factories, including CWC, Eagle Ottawa, and eventually retiring from Eagle Alloy. On March 25, 1983, he married the love of his life, Joyce (Hinkle) Pfenning, and lovingly took on the role of stepfather. They shared many wonderful years together until her passing.

A true handyman, Ron was skilled in woodworking and construction. He proudly raised the roof on his family home-the same home his father built and where he was raised-and single-handedly constructed an impressive pole barn on the property.

Ron had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. For many years, he was an avid bowler in the Christian Men's League at Sherman Lanes. He and Joyce cherished their time camping, spending over 15 summers at their site at Timberlake Campground, creating lasting memories with family.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his friendship, and his devotion to Joyce, whom he missed dearly. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family plans to hold a private celebration of life picnic this summer to honor both Ron and Joyce.

Ron is survived by his children, Janet Gilliland and Joe (Melissa) Pfenning; his grandchildren, Jason Janowiak, Jessica Dove, Billy Gilliland, Travis Pfenning, David (Sierra) Pfenning, Joy Pfenning; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Felker, Jordan Good, Jason Good, Makayla Dove, Jayden Good, William Gilleland, Scarlet Janowiak, Ace Pfenning, and Josie Pfenning; and one great-great-grandson, Jonathan Felker III. He is also survived by his sisters, June Winchel and Shirley Lutke, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce, and his brother, Clarence Kurtzweil.
