Roland Kent Brister Martin I departed this life on Monday, October 29, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 14, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio to the union of Lucius Martin and Annie Mae (Martin) Collins. Roland attended Max Hayes School, where he acquired his job skills. Roland worked as a Cement Finisher for 27 years, until his retirement in 1990. Roland joined Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ, was baptized June 20, 2003, and remained a faithful member. During retirement, his favorite pastimes were coaching little league baseball, basketball, filming his children's games, and talking trash at White's Barber Shop. He was preceded in death by his father, Lucius Martin; mother, Annie Mae Collins; sister, Betty McKinley; and brother, Tieje Martin. Roland leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Marilyn A. Martin; 4 daughters, Annie Rachelle Martin and Nicole Renee Black of Cleveland, OH, Nicole Dye of Las Vegas, and Te'Asia Martin of Muskegon; 2 sons, Derek Wilson of Cleveland, OH and Roland Martin II of Muskegon; 2 brothers, Lucius (Mattie) Martin and Douglas Ray Martin of Cleveland, OH; 2 sisters, Beatrice Martin of Cleveland, OH and Florence (Johnnie) Phillips of Muskegon; 16 grandchildren; his road dog, Emmit Davis, Sr. of Muskegon; and 2 close friends, Roosevelt Belcher and Oscar Patterson; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation is 4-9pm Friday at Toombs Chapel, 2108 Peck St. Family will be present 7-8pm. Interment will be at Mona View Cemetery.
