Dr. Harry W. Robinson, Ed.D, passed away Thursday evening in Grand Haven. Harry was born in Grand Rapids, MI to John W. and Ruth (Renick) Robinson. The family moved to Muskegon when Harry was a child and was graduated from Muskegon Heights High School. He attended Muskegon Community College and earned his undergraduate degree at Western Michigan University, Masters Degree from Columbia University Teachers College, and his Doctorate of Education from Harvard. A gifted educator, Dr. Robinson began his career employed by the United Nations Department of Public Information, working for the educational and cultural efforts, where he traveled extensively and was the state chairman of the Speakers Bureau of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. He was selected by the American Foundation for Political Education, sponsored by the University of Chicago, where he taught a course in world politics at the local level. He returned to his beloved Muskegon Heights where he became principal at East Park Elementary. After leaving his position as principal he went off to teach at the University of Kentucky at Lexington, the School of Education at Harvard University, University of Florida, University of Michigan, Ferris State College, and Muskegon Community College. Dr. Robinson enjoyed golfing, snow skiing, reading and traveling. He is SURVIVED BY: his niece, Mary Cavanaugh (Jack) Byers of Fruitport; great-niece, Kelly (Richard) Johnson of Grand Haven; great-nephews, Jack (Sheri) Byers, III of Fruitport and Sean (Yuka) Cavanaugh Byers of Colorado Springs; great-great nieces and nephews, Erica, Cory, Tyler, Ciara, Kiaya, Gabriel, Abigail, Micheal, and Alexis. VISITATION will be held at the Lee Funeral Home, Sunday, 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A private family service will held at a later date. MEMORIAL: For a more lasting memory, please consider contributing to the John W. and Ruth V. Robinson Scholarship Fund through the Muskegon Community Foundation.
