TUTTLE, MR. ROBERT D. North Muskegon, MI formerly of Evanston, IL Robert D. Tuttle, cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away quietly on Friday, February 9, 2007 (age 81) at his home in North Muskegon, MI. He was born in Terre Haute, IN on July 16, 1925 to Gifford and Helen (Knott) Tutttle and married the former Cynthia "Corky" Corcoran on October 25, 1952. She preceded him in death in 2005 after 53 years of joyful marriage. Mr. Tuttle served as an officer in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a graduate of Northwestern University and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. Mr. Tuttle was the retired chairman and chief executive officer of SPX Corp, a Fortune 500 company, where he served from 1980 through 1991. Prior to that he had lived in Evanston, IL and worked his way up to the position of Vice Chairman of Illinois Tool Works, Inc. Mr. Tuttle had served on several boards in Muskegon, MI, however in Chicago he sat on the board for Daniel Woodhead Industries, Illinois Tool Works, and Little Rapids Corporation among others. He was a Trustee of the Boys and Girls Club of America and a leader of The United Way. Mr. Tuttle was an active club member at Westmoreland Country Club, the Chicago Club, the Union League Club and the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation. The Tuttle's were life long members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Evanston. SURVIVORS 2 sons, Thomas (Elizabeth) Tuttle of MN, John Tuttle of Grand Rapids; 1 daughter, Julia (Gary) Tuttle Gunderson of IL; 1 brother, Richard (Judy) Tuttle of OH; 4 grand children, Bradford, Blaire, Bailey & Brooke Gunderson; 4 nieces and nephews. SERVICE Services were held Thursday, February 15, 2007, 3:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be planned for a future date.
