Robert Steele

Robert Steele, age 85, of Spring Lake passed away Monday, July 9, 2007, at a local care facility. He was born March 4, 1922, in Grand Haven to Sam and Gertrude (Burmeister) Steele, and he married Patricia Doctor on November 12, 1966 in Grand Haven, Pat preceded him in death January 2, 2000. Robert graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1940, served his country in the Army during WW II and retired from Cooper Industries as a tool inspector. He was a valued member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was well known as the organist at the former Grand Haven Roller Rink. He also was the music D.J. for the Holiday-Skate Zone in Muskegon and taught both dance and speed roller skating. Survivors include his two daughters: Gail Durfee of Muskegon and Kathy (George) Lauman of Peru, IN and a son Rex (Jeri) Steele of Fremont and 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and a great grandchild. The Funeral Service for Robert Steele will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dieter Haupt officiating. Interment will be at Lakeshore cemetery with military honors provided by the Charles Conklin American Legion Post #28. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at VanZantwick, Bartels, Kammeraad of Grand Haven. Memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church are appreciated.
