Rita Joyce Weldon

Rita Joyce Knopp Weldon, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 14, 2026. She was born on January 5, 1949, in Bardstown, Kentucky, to Charles and Anithia Knopp.

Rita was a mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend who brought energy and joy wherever she went. She had an outgoing spirit and a love for life that was evident to everyone who knew her. Rita enjoyed her job where she retired from Johnson Controls after 15 years of dedicated service.

She was truly the life of the party and cherished time spent socializing, dining out, attending the theater, and bowling. Rita also had a passion for home improvement projects and was especially talented in carpentry, landscaping, and gardening.

On June 3, 2000, she married Rick Weldon. Together, they shared many adventures traveling in their motorhome, often visiting Canada, exploring antique markets, browsing yard sales, and enjoying local playhouses.

Rita is survived by her sons, Brian (Jackie) Smith and Aaron Smith; her grandson, Caolan Smith, brother Ray (Laurie) Knopp, and mother-In-law Sally Schilz, (Step) daughter Angela MacOwan, grand daughters Lily Rose MacOwan and Anisa MacOwan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anithia Knopp, and her grandson, Gavin Smith.

She will be missed by all her loved ones, including her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rita also held a special place in her heart for her beloved four-legged companions: Minnie, Mingo, Izzy, Ellie, and Angel.
