Mr. Richard Leroy Whalen, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 10, 1939 to Joseph & Helen (Benedict) Whalen and served 6 years in the National Guard. He married the former Sharlyn Norcutt on July 8, 1967. Mr. Whalen had been a Co-Owner and mechanic of Joe's Friendly Service for over 40 years until retiring in 2001. Richard was a life time member of the Muskegon Eagles and enjoyed woodworking, collecting Nascar model cars, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS Wife of 50 years, Sharlyn; children, Lisa Connell of Muskegon, Jeffrey (Diana) Whalen of Muskegon, Lori (Rob) Lawrence of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Brittney, Kristina, Matthew, Alyssa, Kyla, Trista, Brianna, Brett, Ashley, Donny Jr., Timmy; great grandchildren, Sydney, Brynn, Madelynn, DaNasha, Thomas, Makenna, Grayson, Kayda, T.J., Jaxson; brothers,Ed (Alma) Whalen of Muskegon, Robert (Kathy) Whalen of Muskegon; sister, Julie (Gerald) Shepard of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Jr. SERVICE Saturday, June 16, 2018, 11:00 am at the Clock Chapel - Muskegon with Pastor Jamey Newsted officiating. Interment in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION Friday, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clock Funeral Home - Muskegon. MEMORIAL: Harbor Hospice Foundation.
