Mr. Richard "Buck" Vanderwest, age 83, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born in Muskegon on September 25, 1923 to Gerrit and Cornelia (Zuidema) Vanderwest. He married the former Jean A. Gringhuis in Muskegon on July 5, 1947. Mr. Vanderwest served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and was employed at Consumer's Power Co. for 38 years until his retirement in 1986. Richard was an avid roller skater and square dancer with memberships in the Pairs 'n Squares in Muskegon and the Tulip City Squares in Holland. SURVIVORS: his wife, Jean; 1 son, G. Ronald Vanderwest of Chicago, IL; 1 daughter, Nancy Vanderwest of East Lansing, MI; 2 brothers, Sam (Paulette) Vanderwest and Robert (Mary Lee) Vanderwest both of Muskegon; 3 sisters, Wilma Brusky and Irma Vanderwest of Muskegon and Mary Lou (Donald) Sandberg of Whitehall. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Melvin Vanderwest. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Jan Johnson officiating. VISITATION: Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the Lee Funeral Home and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Military rites under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. MEMORIAL: Central United Methodist Church or Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
