MCCARTHY, MR. RICHARD ''RICH'' Whitehall, MI Mr. Richard ''Rich'' McCarthy, age 56, died Monday, May 26, 2003. He was born in Ann Arbor, MI on April 10, 1947 to Richard F. & Mary Flannigan McCarthy, Sr. & raised in Kingsford, MI. He married Nancy LaFave on December 26, 1970 in Iron Mountain, MI. Mr. McCarthy was a graduate of Northern Michigan University where he was an outstanding football player. He had been employed as a Physical Education Teacher at Oakridge Schools for 32 years where he touched the lives of many young people. Sports were an important part of Mr. McCarthy's life. Known to his players as Coach Mac, he most recently coached football & girls track for Reeths-Puffer Schools until he was sidelined by ill health. He previously coached football at both Oakridge & Orchard View. Mr. McCarthy battled chronic illness for most of his life & through it all, his courage, good humor & wisdom were an inspiration to those who knew him. He was a man of faith & a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He will be sadly missed by family & friends. SURVIVORS Wife, Nancy; 3 daughters, Kristin Scott Keelean of Newaygo, MI, Kelly Jo McCarthy of Chicago, IL & Erin McCarthy of Sterling Hts., MI; 2 grand-children, Olivia & Brendan Keelean; mother, Mary McCarthy of Defiance, OH; sister, Kathy Walt Chaput of Defiance, OH; brother, Michael Kathy McCarthy of Defiance, OH; special sister-in-law, Jane Dore of Leucadia, CA; several nieces, nephews, his Oakridge family & many beloved friends. MASS Friday, May 30, 2003, 1:00 PM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Hart officiating. Interment at Oakhurst Cemetery in Whitehall, MI. VISITATION Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Clock Funeral Home.
