Mr. Richard William Kampenga, loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather, age 84, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019. He was born in Muskegon, MI on January 29, 1935, to Russell & Harriet (Wade) Kampenga. After completing High School Dick served in the US Army in Germany as a mechanic. Upon returning home he married the former Pennie Gay on October 15, 1960. In the early years of their marriage and as the family grew, Dick worked several different jobs until settling in with the State of Michigan Department of Corrections. He worked for them for over 20 years eventually becoming the business manager at Brooks Correctional facility until he retired in 1991. Dick was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Muskegon Eagles. He took pride in being the family project manager, fixing & maintaining whatever was needed through the years. Later when he was no longer able to do the actual work he loved to supervise and direct the projects. He was considered the family consultant, advisor, banker & disciplinarian and always maintained a positive attitude on life. Dick loved playing golf, dancing, parties and family gatherings. He was a had a passion for music, cars, Star Trek and watching old western movies. Dick dearly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed having them visit their home on Ruby Creek, taking them to the Old Engine Show and visiting White Pine Village. He found great strength & comfort in his relationship with God and Jesus his Savior. In his later days he was at peace knowing he would be going home soon and looked forward to going to heaven.
