Richard F. George

Mr. Richard "Dick" Franklin George, age 94, passed away at home Sunday, January 29, 2017. He was born in Muskegon Heights, Michigan on February 12, 1922 to Frank & Ellen (Nielsen) George. Mr. George graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and earned his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from Michigan State University. He married the former Shirley Hommes, his high school sweetheart and best friend, on February 22, 1944. He served his country as a Captain in the US Army in Europe during World War II. Dick worked at the Kaydon Corporation for 34 years, retiring as Vice President of Engineering. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and The Old Stone Church in Key West, Florida. Dick loved deep sea fishing, gardening and landscaping with native plantings, but most of all he loved his family. A special thank you to Bekki from Harbor Hospice and the caregivers who became family; Caron, Judi, Bridgett, Renee and Meeka, whose loving care allowed him to be at home this last year. SURVIVORS His wife of 72 years, Shirley; son, Eric (Jane) George of Rohnert Park, California; daughters, Rondi (Carlton) Fry of Traverse City and Michelle (Peter) Chandler of Norton Shores; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, H. Alfred (Rosalee) George and Thomas (Julie) George. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryn Hall. CELEBRATION OF LIFE A celebration of Dick's life will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark D. Miller officiating and Military Honors under the Auspices of the Muskegon County Council of Veterans.
