Ret. Battalion Chief Thomas Oosting

Mr. Thomas A. Oosting, age 73, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012. He was born in Muskegon, MI on December 24, 1938 to Thomas & Anna (Hulka) Oosting and married Sally J. Sargent on September 10, 1960. Mr. Oosting had been a 3rd generation Firefighter and retired after 33 years as Battalion Chief for the Muskegon Fire Department in 1995. Thomas was a member of Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church. He also served as the Vice President for 16 years of the Michigan State Firefighters Union 2nd District, the Secretary for 17 years of the Muskegon Firefighters Union Local 370, a state representative for the International Association of Fire Fighters Union, a life member of the United Lutheran Society & the Muskegon Eagles 668. He will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS Wife of 51 years, Sally; son, Thomas R. (Jerri) Oosting of Stillwater, OK; daughter, Marlys (Joseph) Paparella of Muskegon; grandchildren, Kristin (Derrick Conkle) Paparella of Grand Haven, Matthew (Michaela) Paparella of Grand Rapids, Jenna Paparella of Muskegon, Leah (Josh) Encino and Anna Oosting of Stillwater, OK; great granddaughter, Aubrey Conkle. He was preceded in death by his parents. SERVICE According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. MEMORIAL: Harbor Hospice
