Randy A. Sawyer, age 55, of Grand Haven passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born May 2, 1952, in Grand Rapids to Carl and Frances (Barrett) Sawyer. He married the former Sandra C. Frank on August 27, 1994, in Grand Haven. Randy moved to the Tri-Cities area from Grand Rapids in 1980 and was owner and operator of The Sawyer Family of Homes, a business which includes the Sandpiper, Seville, Simarron, Sorrell, and Sierra residences and serves the Tri-Cities area. He was a member of Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven and a faithful supporter of Hospice of North Ottawa Community. He was a former president of the Ottawa/Allegan Alzheimer's Association and a former board member of the West Michigan Speedskating Club. Randy enjoyed cycling, short track ice speed skating, and he especially loved watching his children's sports and activities. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Erin Elisabeth Sawyer, at home; two sons, Cameron Carl Sawyer and Ethan Mark Sawyer, both at home; his mother, Frances, of Arizona; his mother-in-law, Helga Frank of Grand Haven; three sisters: Susan Rogers of Texas, Kathy Warren of Arizona, and Carol Featherly of Texas; a brother, Robert Sawyer of Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Carl Featherly. The funeral service for Randy will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008, at Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Bruce Ballast officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-5 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Randy's name may be made to the West Michigan Speedskating Club or to Grand Haven Christian School.
