Mrs. Polly Hansen, age 84, of Muskegon, Lake Leelanau, and Arizona, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at her home. She was born April 29, 1924 in Muskegon to the late Paul and Ida (Eby) Obenauf. She divided her time between Michigan and Arizona, especially enjoying the Traverse City/Lake Leelanau area. Polly had a servant's heart. What she could do for others, she did. She pitched in and painted and cleaned for anyone needing help. Polly greatly enjoyed cooking and baking, and many friends were favored with her delicious specialties. Being a faithful member of Traverse City Northland Church, Polly would mow the 2 .5 acre church lawn with a push mower, and then go inside and clean the church. She also mowed several of her neighbor's yards after taking care of her own. In wintertime, Polly would snowblow her neighbor's driveways. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Milton, Kenneth, and Jerry Obenauf. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Laurin; two sons: Scott (Pam) Hansen of Muskegon and Gary (Julie) Hansen of Traverse City; two granddaughters: Cassondra and Sarah; one grandson, Matthew; one sister, Arleen Smith of Muskegon; brothers and sisters-in-law: Leonard (Mary) Hansen of North Carolina, Harland (Joyce) Hansen of Muskegon, and Evelyn Sells of Muskegon; many nieces and nephews. Two Memorial Services will be held: Sunday, September 7th at 3:00 p.m. at Northland Church, 9105 E. Fouch Rd, Traverse City, and on Saturday, September 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Edgewood Lutheran Church, 2525 E. Pontaluna Rd., Fruitport. In lieu of flowers, please remember the American Cancer Society.
