Mrs. Olive J. Piper, age 90, died peacefully at her residence Friday, November 3, 2006. She was born on May 10, 1916 in Nathan, MI to August and Marian (LaPlant) Verboncouer. Olive came to Muskegon at age 17 to work as a nanny for the Jewel family and later for the Amazon Company as a seamstress. She married Milton "Tiny" Piper on July 3, 1937. In 1972, Olive finished her GED and worked as a teacher's assistant for the Reeths-Puffer School District elementary schools of Pennsylvania, Duck Creek, and McMillan. She enjoyed tutoring students at school and at home. Olive excelled at gardening, sewing, knitting, and baking, and was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Milton; her three children, Ronald (Margaret) Piper of Gilroy, CA, Larry (Cathy) Piper of Constantine, MI, and Patricia (Bruce) Dahlman of Grand Haven, MI; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter; her brother, Bernard Verboncouer of AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Olive was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and her son, Roger Piper on May 24, 1954. The Funeral Liturgy will begin at 12noon Tuesday at St. Marys Catholic Church. Burial will be made in St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8pm, at the Pachesny-Jend Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30pm. Visitation also will be Tuesday, one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. Marys Catholic Church Endowment Fund.
