Peter W. Devries

DEVRIES, MR. PETER W. Norton Shores, MI Mr. Peter W. DeVries, age 85, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, November 27, 2003. He was born in Muskegon, MI on March 26, 1918 to Peter & Elizabeth Schuitema DeVries & married the former Jacqueline Salisbury on September 9, 1961. Mr. DeVries served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Staff Sargeant. He was in the grocery business from 1945 to 1959, when he started Pete's Shoe Box & then in 1979 opened Pete's Naturalizer Shoes in Norton Shores. He retired in 1984 & sold the store to his son, James VanderMolen. He was a board member of the St. Louis Children's Home from 1970 to 1983, was President of the Michigan Shoe Retailers Association from 1978-1984, President of Seminole Shores Development Company & Trellis of Mona Lake. He was a member of Calvary Church & served as trustee, Sunday School teacher, chairman of the building committee, teller & greeter & was also a member of Pastor's Prayer Group. SURVIVORS Wife, Jacqueline; 2 sons, Peter Stephanie Austin of Vero Beach, FL & James Cynthia VanderMolen of Muskegon, MI; 2 daughters, Gail Dan Malkiewicz of Ann Arbor, MI & Janelle Jerome Koval of Fruitport, MI; grandchildren, Nicholas & Matthew Austin of FL, Christina Jensen of Muskegon, MI, Garth Kim VanderMolen of Muskegon, MI, Michael & Anna Lee of Ann Arbor, MI, Lori Steve Trautner of Muskegon, MI & Glen Stewart of AZ; great-grandchildren, Tessa & Emery Trautner, Andrew & Mason Jensen, Dylan VanderMolen; sister, Jessie Leroy Slater of Muskegon, MI; 2 sisters-in-law, Marva William Petty & Sally Schuelke, both of Muskegon, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Balcom & by several sisters & brothers. SERVICE Sunday, November 30, 2003, 2:00 PM at Calvary Church with Dr. William Rudd officiating. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION Saturday, 1-3 & 5-7 PM at Clock Funeral Home. MEMORIAL: Calvary Church Building Fund. Clock - Muskegon
