Peter Cornell Bartels, age 83, of Ravenna, Michigan, passed away on May 14, 2026, at Village at the Oaks, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 3, 1942, at Fort Riley, Kansas, to Carnell and Nancy (Kiess) Bartels, Peter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose quiet generosity and love of books left an enduring imprint on those who knew him.
Peter graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1960 and attended Michigan State University before pursuing a skilled trade as a machine repairman. He spent his civilian career with Sealed Power (later Dana), where his craftsmanship and work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and friends. A proud veteran, Peter served in the United States Marine Corps and later in the Army Reserves and the National Guard, completing more than two decades of combined service. Military honors will be rendered in gratitude for his service.
Peter found simple pleasures in reading westerns-especially Louis L'Amour-and thrillers by Tom Clancy. He enjoyed birdwatching and classic westerns on TV, and he rarely refused a request to lend a hand at home. He loved music, sang in choir and church plays at Central Assembly of God, and participated in a mission trip to Jamaica. In recent years, he attended Outpouring Worship Center in Ravenna.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Eric) Gruszecki; his sons, Daniel Bartels and Brian (Leigh Ann) Bartels; and his stepchildren through Sharon: Steven Miller (fiancée, Gwen), Christopher Miller, and Rebecca (Chris) Figueroa. He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Colt, Eli, Rebekah, Riley, Reanna, Robyn, Rianne, Seth, and Brooke; and by several great-grandchildren. Peter's sister, Susan Hamilton, survives him. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Andy Bartels, and by his granddaughter, Stefannie Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Stevens), and by his former wife, Suzanne (Stromstra). Peter's greatest joys were his faith in the Lord and his family.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Clock Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Maycroft officiating.
