Mr. Paul W. DeLong, age 90, passed away Sunday evening, July 29, 2007 in Muskegon. He was born August 5, 1916 to William and Kate (Luikens) DeLong in Muskegon, and was a life resident. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years before retiring. Many years ago he owned the Kweekman Floral Shop, and took care of cemetery urns for over 200 families in the Muskegon area. Paul was also a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a life long member of Fifth Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Adult Bible Class Teacher, Sunday School Superintendant, Wednesday night prayer meeting leader, and was chairman of the Building Committee when the new church sanctuary was built. On August 8, 1947 he married Henrietta VanDyke in Muskegon. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2000. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Paul W. (Kay) DeLong, Jr. of Muskegon, Carol (Tom) Hondorp of Holland; 7 grandchildren, Ben (Sarah) Hondorp, Andy Hondorp, Heidi Hondorp, Jeff (Dyan) Briggs, Sue Ann (Dave) Brinkmoeller, Kimberly Briggs, Jayson (Julie) Briggs; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 brothers-in-law, Phillip (Doralee) VanDyke of Muskegon, Donald (Lois) VanDyke of Ferrysburg; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 5 sisters. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Fifth Reformed Church, with Rev. Norman Swier and Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. VISITATION at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday.
