Patricia Elaine Wimpee, age 87, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, November 29, 2025. Born on April 23, 1938, in Muskegon, MI, she was the beloved daughter of Paul and Dorothy (Mottl) Abrelat. Patricia's warmth and spirit will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Patricia, affectionately known as Pat, began her illustrious career as a beautician at the young age of 18, working at Grossmans Department Store. Her passion for hair care led her to open her own shop out of her home in the heart of downtown Muskegon on 4th and Merrill. For many, she wasn't just a beautician; she was a confidante and a friend, bringing joy and confidence to all who sat in her chair.
A devoted member of Shores Community Church, and previously of Calvary Baptist Church, Patricia's faith was central to her life. She and her husband, Kenith "Jim" Wimpee, who she married on June 13, 1970, shared a love that was evident to all. Their joy for dancing would light up the room, often compelling others to step aside and take in the rhythm of their lives together. They both enjoyed cooking and experimenting with new recipes, and in the fall, you could find them canning vegetables to sustain them through the year. Together, they created a life rich in laughter, love, and cherished memories, often driving to the shores of Lake Michigan to soak in the beauty of the water. She enjoyed arranging flowers, gardening decorating her home and in later years coloring in adult coloring books.
She is survived by her three children: Michael Wimpee, Larry (Tracy) Wimpee, and Tamara (Jim) Williams; step-children: Kenith (Teresa) Wimpee, Edward Wimpee, and Marilyn (Dwayne) Penna; son-in-law, Paul Pena;15 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren. Also left to remember her are her brother, Brian (Cherie) Abrelat, sister-in-law, Glenda Sluyter, and brothers-in-law, Terry Wimpee, and Edward (Carol) Wimpee. Along with her late husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Arnold Abrelat; and step-daughter, Lynda Pena.
