Ophelia "Opie" Chilton, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023 in Bartlett, Tennessee . She was born in Steens, Mississippi on December 18, 1932 and raised by her parents Mattie (Neal) and Marvin McCarter. Ophelia graduated from Hardy Bluff High School in Columbus, MS and worked as a cook at the Columbus Hospital for 20 years. She later moved to Muskegon where she served as the head Chef at the Holiday Inn in Muskegon until retiring after 25 years. Opie was a member of Queen Esther Missionary Baptist Church for 30 years and also was a Foster Grandparent for 15 years.

Children, Janet Collins of Memphis, TN, Sylvia Poole of Muskegon, MI, Myra (Jimmy) Simpson of Traverse City, MI, Lee Marvin Poole of Steens, MS, Ameilia Anderson of Muskegon, MI; Sister, Bessie Jane Brown of Steens, MS; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 17 Great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; Special Friends, Chery Ellis, Catrina Ware.She was preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Mattie McCarter, Two Husbands Myers Poole and Cecil Chilton; Brothers, Ossie McCarter & Felix McCarter.

SERVICE

Friday, June 23, 2023, 12:00 Noon at Queen Esther Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel Greer Jr. officiating. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
