Norma Williams

As a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, Norma Williams never let a day go by that she wasn't giving back to her family, either with her time, support, or encouragement. She may have been independent and very capable of doing things on her own, but she chose to surround herself with family and found much happiness in being with them. During the 1940s, war production was pulling the nation out of the Great Depression. While men were going off to war, many women were going off to work. for $0.43 an hour. Although rationing governed our everyday lives, it was as time of unity and patriotism. In Muskegon, Michigan, Marvin and Hazel (Connelly) Chase were really in a tame of unity they were expecting their fourth child. Norma was born on February 11, 1942 in Muskegon, joining her older sisters, Vera, Ila, and Joyce. Over the next few years, Norma became older sister to Marleen, Ed and Mabeal, and the Chase family was now truly united. Marvin worked in a factory while Hazel cared for their home and the seven children. Norma was an active young girl and loved roller skating and spending time on the family farm in Belding, northeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a young lady, she married a gentleman named Woodland and together they had six children Thomas, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Cheryl, Steve, and Craig. Unfortunately, the marriage ended but life went on for Norma. While at the Half Moon Bar in Dalton Township, MI, a gentleman by the name of Dave Williams asked Norma to dance. One dance led to another and the couple began dating. Both knew that they had finally met the love of their life and were married on June 23, 1973 in Whitehall, Michigan. Norma was a loving and caring wife and mother and her family also came first. She and David loved taking the kids camping at Blue Lake, going on picnics, boating and especially family reunions. Norma loved the holidays because this meant that all of the family would be there together, sharing laughs and memories. But as busy as she was as wife and mother, Norma always left time for herself. While at a bowling tournament in Reno, Nevada, she met a lady named Midge. Midge and Norma were like two peas in a pod and soon became the best of friends. They especially loved going to shopping together. Norma had a real fun side and might have been seen a few times dancing on one of the tables at one of the local bars. About 18 months ago, Norma became sick and decided it was time to retire. During her retirement, she loved going outside at night with Dave and just sitting and looking at the stars. Going boating with her expanded family of grandchildren and great grandchildren also brought her much joy. Mrs. Norma Alburta Williams, age 74, died on Monday, July 18, 2016. Norma was an active member of Fruitland Evangelical Covenant Church and enjoyed bowling, hunting, yardwork and camping. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Norma is survived by her husband of 43 years, David Williams; sons, Thomas Woodland, Kenneth (Paula) Woodland, Jeffrey (Kim) Woodland, Steven (Lisa) Woodland, Craig Woodland; daughter Cheryl (Larry) Amstutz; stepsons Dean (Helen) Williams, Carl Williams; 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; sister Marlene (Robert) Bernard; brother Eddie (Jean) Moffatt; many other siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandsons , Matthew and Anthony and three sisters. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm July 22 at Clock Funeral home Muskegon and Saturday, one hour prior to the service. Services will be held Saturday July 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Fruitland Evangelical Covenant Church. Interment will take place in Fruitland Township Cemetery.
